Let's Round Top: A Guide to One of My Favorite Texas Towns

Writer's picture: SkylerSkyler

About Round Top

Round Top is a tiny town outside of Brenham and La Grange that has all the western vibes and a shopping paradise during the three main events a year lovingly known as “show.”  Although it's a bit quieter when there is not a show, Round Top is quickly becoming a lovely year round destination!

Show Info

Each Fall, Spring and Winter (winter is a smaller show) the towns of Round Top and Warrenton become a mecca for home decor, furniture, antiques, clothes, jewelry, boots, and all the Western vintage you could dream of. And when I say mecca, I mean vendors from all over come to set up shop in the fields and existing storefronts throughout Round Top to sell the most unique finds! In addition to shopping, there are fun events and dinners throughout the show you won’t want to miss to add to the Round Top Experience!

As a reference I always check the guide Blue Hills publishes for each show and the Round Top Event Calendar to see what's happening during the show!

Must-Visit Shops

During show I always make sure to make time for these shops in addition to the new storefronts that emerge each show in this growing place!

  • Richard Schmidt for unique jewelry and great men’s/women’s boutique clothing (open during non-show times too).

  • Blue Hills to admire the beautiful European imports and a visit to Tent 8 where I always find amazing jewelry!

  • The Arbors for clothes, more jewelry and there is normally a band and cocktails set up from Ellis Motel

  • And last but certainly not least the fields in Warrenton for hidden gems or specific items you have on your list to add to your home. I tend to spend the least amount of time in the fields as it is mostly antiques but always find something to bring back!

Parking During Show

Finding parking is pretty easy thankfully with plenty of parking at each venue and once you get to Warrenton you can park in any of the field lots that usually cost around $5.

Where to Stay

There are so many great Airbnbs in this area and if you don’t mind driving a bit, you can expand your search to La Grange or Brenham!

I personally enjoy staying closer to Round Top to make it easier to get around and love these places!

  • The Frenchie: Such a fun place to stay with a wonderful restaurant onsite (only available to guests). I recommend the Pool Bungalows if you are on a couples trip!

  • Farmstead Round Top: We loved staying here for the location and sweetest service by the family that runs this place! Also a beautiful quiet property with a pool too!

  • Wander Inn: A unique stay owned by the famous Junk Gypsy [located right behind the store]!

I haven’t stayed at these places yet but also on my list are:

If you plan to come during the show, book early (most properties will require a 2 night minimum) or get lucky with a last minute cancellation!

Where to Eat

  • Lulu’s: A Round Top staple with great Italian food in a beautiful setting.

  • Oakbones: Only open for dining during show, chef Victor Hugo makes an amazing experience! Check out the menu for each night on Instagram and message him for reservations.

  • Bader Ranch: During show this is a great place to grab a drink with a beautiful view at Lady Elaines located in the back.

  • DUO Modern: My go to for their brunch!

  • Boon & Company: A great new addition for lunch or cocktails upstairs!

  • The Crown Bar: Located in the very back corner of Cisco Village (also a location in La Grange), this local gem is open during show & you can find great drinks and bands here!

What to Do

Well of course shopping is my personal favorite activity in Round Top but the list of things to do is growing as Round Top becomes more and more popular!

  • Enjoy live music at the Stone Cellar or venture to The Bugle Boy for a listening experience (read the rules here!)

  • Check out one of Round Top's emerging festivals normally listed here

  • Rest and relax in the serene surroundings with a book and glass of wine (you are on Round Top time!)

  • Take a short trip into La Grange or Brenham to visit the town squares!

Tips for your Trip

  • Have fun with your attire, especially during show (although comfortable shoes definitely help)! Its so fun to see what people pull out of their closets, so don’t be afraid to dust off those cowboy boots and hats!

  • While essentials are available nearby, packing snacks and water is always a good idea. And if you’d like, you can venture over to The Little Cheese Shop for goodies!

  • Cash can be handy, though not essential, most vendors during show take Venmo.

  • Note that many places in Round Top are closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and sometimes Wednesdays.

  • Most of all, enjoy this special place and have what I like to call just silly fun here!
