Dripping Springs: A Texas Town Getaway

Writer's picture: SkylerSkyler

Dripping Springs, known as the gateway to the hill country, is an amazing weekend away especially for those in Houston, San Antonio or Austin. The secret is out about Dripping Springs but they have been able to maintain its hill country charm. I hope this guide sparks some inspiration for some weekend fun in this wonderful town!

What to Do

  • Reimers Ranch Park: There are so many trails to explore at this park as well as a beautiful riverfront! Once you park, you can follow a short hike downhill to a fun spot to sit and enjoy the water. Be sure to check the park website before heading out for water levels and permit requirements.

  • We have found ourselves in Dripping Springs for festivals we come across throughout the years! Definitely stay up to date on the Destination Dripping Springs site for their calendar of events. We’ve attended The Texas Whisky Festival, Texas Night Sky Festival and a town over the Driftwood Heritage Festival so definitely take a look to see what might be happening!

  • Distilleries, Wineries and Breweries: There is no shortage of places to grab a fun drink and hang out in Dripping Springs. Our personal favorites are Desert Door for sotol and overall best tasting room vibes, Treaty Oak Distilling for the whisky lover in your life, Deep Eddy which is cool to see somewhere now so famous from this small town,  Graveyard Vineyards for a very laid back winery but I think some of the tastiest in Dripping Springs and I haven’t gotten to go but Sidecar is definitely on my list to try! (Don’t worry there are ubers here too!)

  • Texas Hill Country Olive Oil is another must stop on your list for tasting tours and there is even a bistro on property!

  • I prefer to do most of my shopping at the places mentioned above but recently discovered Sunday Bookshop which was a cozy new addition to Dripping Springs!

  • If you are itching for more adventure or wanting to drive the beautiful hill country roads, there are so many great towns you can easily take a day trip and definitely recommend checking out Wimberley!

Where to Eat

  • Trattoria Lisina: Technically in Driftwood but such a beautiful place to drive out to for Italian with Duchman Winery right next door!

  • Summer Revival Wine Co.: A spot with more natural wines and a Ginger Miso Soba Noodle dish I can’t stop thinking about!

  • You can’t visit the hill country without a little BBQ Tour and we love hopping around to Crimson Creek at Deep Eddy and if you eat later be prepared for many items sold out, Pig Pen and of course the original, The Salt Lick

  • Alice’s at Treaty Oak is a great spot you can enjoy with no need for a reservation!

  • And like I mentioned above the bistro at Texas Hill Country Olive Oil is great for a light lunch or snack.

Where to Stay

  • Finding a place to stay in Dripping Springs can be a bit trickier so don’t be afraid to stay in a neighboring town if you don’t find somewhere you get excited about!

  • We love exploring Airbnbs and have stayed in these!

  • And have this one my dream list to stay in nearby Wimberly

  • We have also stayed at Lucky Arrow which was good for the location (a bit on the “camp-like” side for me) but could see it being super fun with a group of friends!

There is no shortage of fun in Dripping Springs and hope you find this town as charming and lovely as we do!
